For this project I created a non-profit organization called Black Girls Shine. The goal of the organization is to give black girls from ages 8–18 the tools and resources to discover their passions, and to learn and connect with peers that have similar interests. The organization would hold 4-week long summer camps in which the girls would be introduced to different activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) and would be able to delve further into the one that interests them.
I then created a Micro-campaign: “Step Forward” hosted by Black Girls Shine. This campaign would be an annual step competition in which the community and Black Girls Shine members and staff could attend the competition. All proceeds raised would go towards funding for local high school students that need help paying for ACT and SAT testing. Using the halftone patterning again to relate back to Black Girls Shine, the goal was to reflect an exciting community event that is open to people of all ages.
